Since its inception in 2005, Bike for Brain Health in support of Baycrest has raised millions of dollars to advance Baycrest’s mission as a global leader in brain health and aging. As one of Canada’s most inspiring and impactful cycling events, thousands of riders come together each year to pedal with purpose, raising critical funds to support research, innovation, care and education in Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
WE ARE CHANGING THE FUTURE OF BRAIN HEALTH
As Canada’s population ages, the number of people living with dementia or cognitive impairment is expected to nearly double to approximately 1.4 million by 2031.
At Baycrest, groundbreaking work is helping to preserve and extend the cognitive, emotional and physical well-being of older adults in Canada and around the world.
Donors to Baycrest Foundation play a critical role in making this possible. Government funding accounts for only about 64 percent of Baycrest’s revenues. The remaining support must be raised through philanthropy.
Funds raised through Bike for Brain Health power vital research discoveries, innovative programs, compassionate care and education initiatives that are transforming the future of aging and brain health.
WHERE DO THE FUNDS GO?
Bike for Brain Health supports early detection, therapies and innovations in dementia care at Baycrest. For 5 years, sponsors, participants and donors have invested in world-class research that is improving lives and advancing new solutions for those living with dementia and their loved ones. Today, funds raised through the event support leading researchers and their essential work to better understand, prevent and treat cognitive decline.
Headquartered on a 22-acre campus in Toronto and fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Baycrest is unique in the world. It combines a comprehensive system of care for older adults with one of the top research institutes in cognitive neuroscience, the Rotman Research Institute. Baycrest has also been recognized as Canada’s #1 most research-intensive hospital since 2022, reflecting the depth, scale and impact of its scientific leadership.
Baycrest’s dedicated centres focus on reducing the impact of age-related illness and impairment, while fostering global knowledge exchange and innovation.
With nearly a century of excellence in elder care, Baycrest continues to rethink brain health and aging. Its vision is a world where people can age in the setting of their choice while maintaining their cognitive, emotional and physical well-being.
Baycrest is also home to the Canadian Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation, a transformative made-in-Canada initiative that is accelerating solutions for senior care and turning frontline ideas into real-world impact.
